DIY Plant Pot Cake and Giant Chocolate Cupcake Recipe

Recently the lovely people at BakingMad.com sent me a package full of baking ingredients to whip up something special with! In the box was an apron to keep me tidy whilst baking, some Billington’s sugar, Allinson flour and a precious bottle of vanilla Nielsen Massey extract. With such quality ingredients I wanted to make a showstopper and decided it was time to dust off my giant cupcake pan! I’ve experimented with a couple of giant cupcake recipes for the pan but this is a trusty one that always turns out good results: 350g golden caster sugar 350g plain flour 350g unsalted butter 6 eggs (beaten) 90g cocoa powder 85g plain…

    DIY Flower Crown Tutorial #2

After my visit to Glastonbury I fell more in love with flower crowns than ever, they were everywhere, but it also highlighted that ALOT of people shop at Topshop or ASOS so if you want to be unique then you’ve got to DIY! As my first DIY Flower Crown Tutorial used pre-wired artificial flowers from a garland I thought it would also be useful to show you how to convert any old artificial flower arrangement into your own DIY flower crown. If you’re not interested in making your own, Rock N Rose have an amazing range of beautiful flower crowns that you can buy but, if you want to create a bespoke flower crown of your own, read on! I’ve actually ordered some silk flowers from eBay to make a pink rose garland which are shipping from China, I’ve tried to be patient in…

DIY Fabric Rose Bouquet – My Hillary’s Country Crafts Competition Entry

Mother’s Day is coming up and there’s no better gift than a handmade gift – particularly for mums (my mum still has drawings I did for her when I was 3)! The timing of this tied in nicely with the Hillary’s Blinds Country Crafts Competition. Hillary’s have come up with a great competition where there’s a £1000 prize up for grabs. Using a 1m square piece of one of their fabrics you have to create an individual project and blog about it. I chose the Patina fabric because I’m a sucker for dogtooth! No Mother’s Day is complete without a bunch of flowers so I thought I’d use my fabric…

    First Make of 2013!

I wanted to give my lovely friend Kate a 30th birthday present that was special and knowing she loves flowers I made her this rose. It’s made from 13 petals and 2 leaves cut from felt sheets (Dunelm Mill) folded and sewn around a 20-30cm long piece of heavy duty garden wire (B&Q). This was a relatively quick and simple make but an effective one. I hand embroidered the leaves with Kate’s initials and the number 30 to make it extra special and wrapped it in cellophane tied with a ribbon for a professional touch. Multiple roses could be made and presented the same way as a bouquet – a…
