DIY Doily Envelopes: Things To Do With Doilies #4

I think this is my favourite use for my doily die that I’ve found so far, miniature doily envelopes. They’re super cute and can form part of a number of awesome craft projects – even better they’re really easy to make. To make DIY doily envelopes you need: A doily (I made mine with the DoCrafts Doily Die) Paper glue A ruler (Trumpton design optional) 1. Fold the sides of the doily towards the centre, use the ruler to keep the fold straight and even. 2. Fold up the bottom of the doily so it overlaps the two sides. 3. Place a strip of scrap paper inside the newly formed…

Renovation Sensation – Upcycling an Ottoman

Excitingly, I was recently invited to take part in the Direct Blinds Renovation Sensation competition. The premise of the competition is to demonstrate that old, discarded pieces of furniture can be renovated and given a new lease of life. Which, for a crafter, is pretty much a given and I loved the concept as it’s an important message to share with the world! To buy my piece of furniture I went to the British Heart Foundation Furniture and Electrical Warehouse in Sale – this place is AMAZING. It’s chock full of awesome furniture that’s been donated or picked up at house clearances and it’s all going for a song, not…

    DIY Heart Bunting from Paper

The beauty of being crafty is that there are always lots of things to make and do to keep your environment fresh without having to spend any money. I’ve recently been suffering from tonsillitis which has meant I’ve been spending alot of time on the sofa, under a blanket in the living room watching TV and it made me realise that I’m a bit bored of the ‘welcome home’ bunting that I made a while ago and fancied a change so after dosing myself up with some soluble aspirin and a hot drink I made the journey up the stairs to the craft room and got started on some new…

Things to do with Doilies #3: DIY Doily Dress Card

Whilst in my recent pink post I said that I wasn’t such a girly girl, I do (and have always) loved dresses. In particular, I love wedding dresses. My dream job, as I may have mentioned before, is to be Thelma Madine and make enormous extravagant wedding dresses for a living. As I’ve also recently learned that I love papercraft and my new doily die, this little project fits in perfectly! For the doily dress you need: A doily (cut using Xcut Vintage Notes Doily Die) Scissors PVA glue Pink paper or card For the card you also need: A blank folded card 2 mini pegs A black pen or…

Things To Do With Doilies #2: DIY Jar Labels

I’m constantly on the look out for storage for my craft room, I have a lot of stuff crammed in to a little space but storage isn’t always pretty and as part of my ‘things to do with doilies’ series I found a cute, shabby chic solution. Clear glass jars are great for storage as you can see exactly what you’ve got and they’re pretty cheap. In the past I’ve picked them up from vintage markets for £1 or Ikea have a whole range of sizes starting from a similar price point – I think the jars pictured here were £3 each.   You will need: A jar A doily…

    Another Boiler Screen

This one’s for a friend of mine. Her boiler is against the wall on one side so only needs two pieces. The fabric, ribbon and upholstery tacks are from Dunelm Mill. Hinges and wood from B&Q.

Sewing Room Decor Part 1: Desk Revamp

This desk was made by my step-dad’s dad, it’s really solid and a super surface for sewing on. Luckily for me, when I bought the house from him it was too heavy to move. Unfortunately, it was pretty ugly. My solution? I spent a Sunday whipping it into shape! First I used my trusty Black and Decker mouse sander to scuff up the surface. Then I wiped off the dust with a damp cloth and let it dry. I painted it with plain old Matt emulsion. I was planning on buying multiple tester pots as a whole tin would be far too much but I discovered that in large B&Qs…

    Best Dog Bed Ever?

I bought this vintage steamer trunk off eBay for £20. I had to buy a large one as our Bassett Hound is pretty sizeable! I had to measure his existing bed to make sure I bought one he’d fit into. It was important for me to give him his own space in our newly decorated shabby chic lounge but normal dog beds always look a bit rubbish! I saw this in a magazine and immediately thought it was perfect (as you can see, Horatio agrees!).

Create Your Own Fabric Wall Art

This was a really quick one that I copied from the Ikea showroom. All materials are Ikea: Berta Ruta Grey fabric £7/m Rosmarie fabric £6/m Ung Drill frame £25 I had the grey checked fabric left over from the curtains and cushion covers I’ve made for the living room and thought this was quite a good way to tie the whole room together. The rose fabric was an offcut so I got it cheaper than the per metre price – all you need is one full instance of the three roses. I cut the check fabric to the size of the oval – I actually pinned the paper insert from…

    Crochet Cat Doorstop

I’m particularly proud of this one as it’s my own adaption of an existing pattern. Using Patons Smoothie DK wool and a 4.00mm hook this is crocheted in the round, padded out with wadding and filled with a bag of lentils for weight. I added a bendable tail for extra cuteness!
