‘Dresses Like Rihanna’ – Leather Look Dungaree Dress

Rihanna is, without doubt, one of the sexiest women in the world and her dress sense is to die for but, let’s face it, not all of us can carry off Rihanna’s wardrobe no matter how much we wish we could! She arrived in London a couple of weeks ago in a leather dungaree jumpsuit, the epitome of street style. Leather’s a key fabric for AW13 but this look is a perfect example of style that needs to be toned down for the normal, every day lives of non-celebs like me! I can’t get away with a leather onesie in the office even if there is no dress code! I do love dungarees though and, after seeing this, was keen to work some leather into my wardrobe so decided on making a leatherette dress.

The fabric I used is from the lovely people at Abakhan and is punched leatherette. It’s perfect for clothing because it’s lightweight and lies well on the body. I had to use two patterns to come up with the style I wanted. I’ve written an article for them on how I made the dress which should be up on their blog in the next week or so.

In the photo I’m also wearing a Breton striped top from Forever 21 and a necklace from ASOS. Tame enough for office wear (tried and tested with no funny looks!) but still on trend and, even better, one of a kind.
