DIY Christmas Jumper with Felt Pug Motif

You know I love a crafty competition and when I was invited to take part in the Turtle Mat Thrifty Christmas Jumper Challenge I knew it was right up my street, they sent me a lovely cream jumper and gave me £5 to spend on making it into a Christmas special! As it happens, it’s Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day tomorrow so I’m just in time! I wanted to make something a bit out of the ordinary rather than stick to a traditional theme plus I love Pugs (and hope that Andrea wins the X Factor this weekend) so decided to combine the two! Here’s the tutorial for making…

DIY Vanity Table: Upcycle a Mirror

I’ve been holding this in for a while but I’m excited to finally tell you about the project that I came up with for Wayfair.co.uk! I was able to choose an item from their site to upcycle and then put together a tutorial on how to bespoke it into something extra special. I decided to upcycle a mirror into a multipurpose vanity table using glass jars and hose clips. You can read the full tutorial on Wayfair’s site here! Hope you like it, let me know what you think!

    Topps Tiles Yuletile Challenge

This is my first Christmas post of the year! I love Christmas so hard, not just because of the family times, the gifts, the copious amounts of food or even the films (Muppet Christmas Carol and Santa Claus: The Movie are my faves) but also because of the endless opportunities for DIY! The lovely people at Topps Tiles invited me to take part in their Yultile Challenge competition and sent me two blank tiles and some crafty supplies and to help me create my own Christmas designs. Tile 1: For my first tile I decided to use contemporary colours to create a Christmas recipe board for mince pies, leant…

    Upcycling Idea: DIY Lightbulb Pears

This is one of my favourite DIYs because it turns something innocuous into a beautiful addition to the home. Who would have thought that it was possible to DIY an old lightbulb?! This upcycling idea creates cute ornaments perfectly for a shabby chic decorated home. They’re also pretty easy to make (as long as you don’t mind getting messy fingers!) You will need: Old lightbulb Mod Podge Matte Twine Paint brush Stalk of a bush/twig 1. Brush a light layer of glue onto the end of the lightbulb – there’s no point covering all of the bulb at this point because it’ll dry before you get to it. 2. Coil…

    Things To Do With Jars

Sorry for the hiatus folks, I’ve been working on a couple of exciting projects which has left OHD a little bit neglected! Rest assured I’m back, I’m inspired and I’m ready to blog! After the B&Q AW14 press day earlier in the year, I was really impressed with their attention to detail on the home furnishings front and the little extra touches. One of my favourites was this large jar which can fill a multitude of purposes! When I was lucky enough to be given the chance to choose my favourite piece from the collection to post about, the jar was a no brainer. What I really love about this…

Easy Peasy Gardening with B&Q Easygrow

I am not a gardener, of the many crafty pastimes I enjoy gardening, unfortunately, isn’t one of them but when B&Q asked me if I wanted to give their super simple Easygrow technology a try (and with the spectre of our poor, unloved garden floating in my mind) I said why not? The Easygrow bedding plants use Teabag Technology, the roots of the plant and a bit of soil is all contained in a teabag type bag that degrades naturally so all you have to do is dig a hole, pop it in and cover it up. That’s it – amazing! It’s also better for the environment too – you…

DIY Backpack Pattern in Pretty Girls Sew Magazine

A little while ago I was asked by the lovely Tabitha from Pretty Girls Sew to contribute to the first edition of their digital magazine which I was very excited about! Pretty Girls Sew is a fab sewing blog founded by Yetunde, Crystal, Tabitha, Jenell and Miesha and is a great place for sharing your sewn creations with other sewing enthusiasts plus getting inspiration for new creations. I was really honoured to be asked to contribute, the Pretty Girls Sew magazine is now available to read digitally and it’s so good, I can’t wait to read the next edition! As I’ve been lusting after a smart rucksack for a while…

Upcycling A Wine Bottle with Spray Paint

It’s been a while since my last post, I’ve been on holiday and also working on a couple of exciting projects that I’ll be able to share soon but I’m back now and back to crafting with a vengeance! One thing my holiday confirmed for me is that I really like wine, which is unfortunate because not only is it alcoholic so not acceptable to consume that often, it’s also the devil’s work when it comes to dieting (sugar overload). You can’t win them all can you? One of my favourite wines is a Rose called Mateus Tempranillo and its unusual shaped packaging is a great candidate for an upcycling…
