DIY Doily Envelopes: Things To Do With Doilies #4

I think this is my favourite use for my doily die that I’ve found so far, miniature doily envelopes. They’re super cute and can form part of a number of awesome craft projects – even better they’re really easy to make. To make DIY doily envelopes you need: A doily (I made mine with the DoCrafts Doily Die) Paper glue A ruler (Trumpton design optional) 1. Fold the sides of the doily towards the centre, use the ruler to keep the fold straight and even. 2. Fold up the bottom of the doily so it overlaps the two sides. 3. Place a strip of scrap paper inside the newly formed…

    DIY Heart Bunting from Paper

The beauty of being crafty is that there are always lots of things to make and do to keep your environment fresh without having to spend any money. I’ve recently been suffering from tonsillitis which has meant I’ve been spending alot of time on the sofa, under a blanket in the living room watching TV and it made me realise that I’m a bit bored of the ‘welcome home’ bunting that I made a while ago and fancied a change so after dosing myself up with some soluble aspirin and a hot drink I made the journey up the stairs to the craft room and got started on some new…

Sizzix Texture Boutique Beginner’s Kit: A Papercraft Tool Review

This week I received a lovely parcel from the darling people at Hobbycraft with a nifty new tool to try! The Sizzix Texture Boutique Beginner’s Kit is great for papercraft newcomers (like me) to get to grips with embossing, cardmaking and other papercrafting activities. Besides the machine itself the kit comes with a ton of extras – blank white and ivory cards and envelopes, 40 sheets of multicoloured cardstock, sentiment transfers and three embossing folders. If that wasn’t enough the machine itself is super cute and shaped like a handbag in a very fetching duck egg blue! I’m not one to make things easy for myself so instead of using…

Things to do with Doilies #3: DIY Doily Dress Card

Whilst in my recent pink post I said that I wasn’t such a girly girl, I do (and have always) loved dresses. In particular, I love wedding dresses. My dream job, as I may have mentioned before, is to be Thelma Madine and make enormous extravagant wedding dresses for a living. As I’ve also recently learned that I love papercraft and my new doily die, this little project fits in perfectly! For the doily dress you need: A doily (cut using Xcut Vintage Notes Doily Die) Scissors PVA glue Pink paper or card For the card you also need: A blank folded card 2 mini pegs A black pen or…

Free Printables: Mottos To Live By

I’m a total geek. I’m not just a geek, I’m a web geek. I’m not ashamed, I love the internet, so much so that it’s what I do for a living – retail eCommerce. Last week I was lucky enough to attend a talk by Martijn Bertisen from Google who vocalised one of the most sensible things that I have ever heard – “data beats opinion”. Basically, if there’s more than one point of view on how something can be done, test it and find out which is best. In the world of online this is particularly pertinent as everything is measurable – it’s why I love what I do.…

Things To Do With Doilies #2: DIY Jar Labels

I’m constantly on the look out for storage for my craft room, I have a lot of stuff crammed in to a little space but storage isn’t always pretty and as part of my ‘things to do with doilies’ series I found a cute, shabby chic solution. Clear glass jars are great for storage as you can see exactly what you’ve got and they’re pretty cheap. In the past I’ve picked them up from vintage markets for £1 or Ikea have a whole range of sizes starting from a similar price point – I think the jars pictured here were £3 each.   You will need: A jar A doily…

DIY Spring Wreath with Tissue Paper Roses

Before I start, I’m going to apologise for the state of my nails in these picture, I had an unfortunate incident of nearly tearing my little finger nail off so couldn’t get my acrylics filled in – dark times. Anyhoo! It may still be rainy and cold but I’ve seen the sun a couple of times and now it’s officially spring! I’ve updated my wardrobe accordingly and now it’s time for a bit of interior design. You need: Tissue paper is various colours A polystyrene wreath Hot glue gun Scissors Ribbon 1. The flowers are made in the same way as the fabric flowers in my Hillary’s Country Crafts Competition…

Things To Do With Doilies #1: DIY Handstamped Doily Bunting

The humble doily, favourite of grandmas everywhere, has had a new lease of life since the shabby chic trend hit interior design. Just like everything else, doilies don’t have to just be used as mats. I recently bought an Xcut Vintage Notes Doily Die and I’m going to be doing a series of posts about the possibilities of upcycling paper doilies. Of course, you can just buy paper doilies if you don’t have a die cutter but I like to think it makes a project a little bit more special if it’s as handmade as possible. From my previous posts you already know that I’m in love with bunting so…

Testing Testing 123: Do Crafts Carnival Alphabet Stamps

I’m in the process of making something cute but until I get it finished I thought I’d write a little post about how much I LOVE these stamps from Do Crafts! They’re called Carnival Alphabet stamps and have that amazing old school circus vibe about them which adds something special to even the most mundane of messages. The multi-coloured packaging drew me like a moth to a flame and as soon as they arrived I wanted to try them immediately. In the middle of my other little make. my boyfriend asked me to knock up a birthday card for his dad’s birthday. I used green, blue and purple craft ink…

DIY Handstamped Paper Bunting Birthday Card

It’s happened, the change. No I’m not talking about the menopause, I’m talking about the switch from fashion and gossip magazines to crafting and diy glossies. I’ll let you in to a secret, I love a free gift and this month in Papercraft Inspirations was one of the best free gifts that I’ve ever had from a magazine – the 86 piece stamp set! Not only does it include a whole typewriter-esque alphabet but it also has various bunting stamps, banners, birds and small embellishments. The possibilities for this set are literally endless and the stamps are really good quality – I’ve paid for stamps that don’t print as well…
